Rise of the mobile workforce – Four myths that just aren’t true

By Nebula | Business Strategy, Digitalisation, Featured, Mobile, Mobility, Telecoms Expense Management Software, TEM | 0 comment | 30 August, 2018 | 0

Let’s face it, mobile technologies – and smartphones in particular – have changed the world of work. With the majority of the global workforce in possession of these tiny super computers, employees are reachable at all times and can pretty much work from anywhere. Mobile technologies are having such an impact that the global mobile workforce is expected to rise to 1.87 billion by 2022, according to research from Strategy Analytics. This is around a quarter of the people on earth.

As is the case with any new innovation or change to the status quo there are a number of myths around the mobile workforce. Below, we debunk a few:

    Myth #1: BYOD is costly

While it is becoming more and more common for organisations to allow their mobile workforce to bring their own devices to work, there are still some reservations. Roughly 85% of the participants in a recent Crowd Research survey cited adoption barriers such as increased support costs and resistance from management. But this is only the case when you don’t have the right telecoms expense and lifecycle management platform in place. With the right solution, your mobile cost management is automated, freeing up everyone’s time to focus on more important tasks.

    Myth #2: Talent is limited

A mobile strategy won’t get off the ground if you lack the manpower to support it. Which is a disheartening realisation when you consider that there are sizeable talent shortages within the mobile space. But what you can’t do in-house, you can outsource. And often at a much lower cost. The right partner will manage everything so you don’t have to headhunt the best talent to handle your mobile requirements.

    #3 You’re creating a security nightmare

A quarter of the organisations surveyed by Dimensional Research didn’t know whether their devices were breached. And about 94% expect mobile risks to get worse. While there’s no denying that having your employees move around with sensitive corporate information on their mobile devices does present a world of dangers, Gartner research reveals that the latest mobile security techniques actually protect organisations against advanced attacks and enable digital business transformation without the risks.

    #4 BYOD hampers user privacy

When a business implements a strict BYOD policy, employees often push back because they worry that the IT team may snoop through their phones. But this is not the case when a company makes use of the right mobile device management solution. The monitoring is for mobile cost management and recharge purposes and in no way sees the boss watching what an employee is doing on their personal device.

If you’d rather not have myths like these hamper the adoption of mobile devices across your enterprise, you need a solution that makes mobile device management a breeze. OneView, our cloud-based telecoms expense and lifecycle management platform, does exactly that and so much more. To find out more, complete the form below and we’ll be in touch.
