As the pace of business escalates, operational decision-makers will be increasingly pressurised to capture, manipulate and deliver in a shorter period. Companies are therefore looking to create insights with tools and methods for operational business intelligence (BI).
Analytics and Operational Visibility
The long-term stability and success of an organisation depends on the execution of day-to-day tactical objectives. Many organisations are using analytics and BI capabilities on a real or near real-time basis to gain better visibility into what drives its business at a tactical level.
Aberdeeen’s research shows that Best-in-Class are delivering information to key decision-makers on time and are enjoying improvements in key business metrics, including revenue and cost reduction (see Figure 1 below).
Today’s decision-makers are challenged by an influx of data, and Aberdeen’s findings suggest that companies are struggling to manage these disparate and complex data volumes. Companies feel that key tactical decisions are supported by inaccurate or incomplete data (Figure 2).
The Cream of the Analytical Crop
Aberdeen used the metrics below to differentiate the Best-in-Class from Industry Average and Laggard organisations:
- Timeliness of information
- Customer responsiveness
- Operational efficiency
The actual weighted average performance of Best-in-Class companies, measured against the performance of metrics above, is shown below:
Capitalising on Real-Time Visibility
According to Aberdeen’s research, 39% of all companies have real or near real-time visibility into their most important operational performance indicators. Companies with this type of real-time visibility have noticed higher performance across several tactical operating metrics (Figure 4).
- Faster visibility leads to accelerated decisions
- Best-in-Class companies develop a clear ROI methodology
- There are tools for operational intelligence and BI available
