Telkom Mobile’s revamped offering, FreeMe, includes smartphone packages ranging from R99 for 1GB of data to R999 for an unlimited deal. These innovative mobile packages are available to contract and prepaid users, and have been available for purchase since 25 July. According to data from Research ICT Africa, Vodacom and MTN charge customers as much as R150 for 1GB of data.
“Telkom FreeMe offers our customers smartphone plans that liberate them from everything they’ve ever hated about their network. Data has become the central requirement for most smartphone users, so that is what we have prioritised,” said Attila Vitai, Telkom CEO for consumer and small business.
Telkom Mobile was launched more than five years ago and has 2.6 percent of South Africa’s mobile market. The company is looking to grow that part of the business to make up for the decline in landline usage.
