Junior Business Intelligence Developer


Department: Support Services Team
Location: Western Cape

Nebula seeks a candidate to take on the challenging role of Junior Business Intelligence Developer. The ideal candidate would have the following required experience, competencies and skills:

Education:

  • Matric
  • Microsoft Certifications in SQL Server 2005/2008
    (Oracle / SAP / DB2 certifications may be acceptable replacements)
 

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of Business Intelligence development
  • At least 4 years of working in the IT industry
  • Experience as a business analyst or other information-driven roles
  • At least 1 year experience working in a reporting environment with data warehouses
    (Exceptional graduate candidates that can illustrate competencies will be considered)

Critical Competencies:

  • Ability to solve IT data problems quickly and execute a solution
  • Ability to develop SQL solutions that are efficient that use best-practise SQL knowledge
  • Ability to translate business requirements into an IT solution
  • Ability to learn very quickly and get up to speed with new and different technologies fast
  • Has own transport
  • Able to be flexible with work hours during a crisis or major projects that can only be worked on after business hours
  • Ability to work in a pressured environment
  • Ability to display time management skills that can adapt to constant changes in the day
  • Ability to work in a small team with a wide range of responsibilities
  • Ability of independent thought, but able to know the limitations and ask for help
  • Ability to document processes well and keep this up to date

Essential skills, behaviour and knowledge required: 

  • Can code/develop in Microsoft T-SQL with SQL Server 2005 (2008 advantageous)
  • Has knowledge in SQL Server administration, relating to database creation and maintenance
  • Can translate SQL code into usable business reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (2005 and later)
  • Can work with data import procedures using SQL Server Integration Services or Sagent Data Flow Service
  • Has worked with data warehouses before and can load dimension and fact tables
  • Has knowledge of other Microsoft .NET programming languages (advantageous)
  • Can use the programming tools in T-SQL and Server Agent to build automated procedures
  • Has a keen eye for detail and accuracy, and a natural sense of when report outputs are non-sensical
  • Ability to learn fast and has evidence of being able to adapt to changing environments well
  • Has worked with SQL Replication and other high-availability methods (advantageous)
  • Can install a SQL Server instance and configure correctly
  • SQL code is well structured and properly documented
